Description

Custom hard enamel keychains for artists, indie brands, bands, and anyone who wants the smooth, jewelry-finish quality of hard enamel applied to a daily-carry product instead of a pin. Made with the same baked-and-buffed enamel process as our hard enamel pins (just slightly thicker, 1.8mm vs the standard pin thickness, for keychain durability) and finished with your choice of gold, silver, or rose gold hardware.

Alchemy is a production partner built by artists, musicians, and brand owners. We've helped creators produce over 5 million custom products since 2019, and we don't operate like a promotional products company. Whether you're an indie illustrator running your first 50-piece drop, a band making merch for a tour, or a designer ordering for a brand launch, our job is the same: make the best merch we can for you.

What hard enamel keychains actually are

Hard enamel is a manufacturing process where colored enamel is filled into a metal mold and baked at high temperature until it hardens. Once cooled, the surface is buffed flat so the enamel sits flush with the raised metal lines. The result is smooth to the touch, durable, and reads cleanly at arm's length.

Why hard enamel for a keychain specifically: keychains live in pockets, get banged around in bags, and rub against keys all day. Hard enamel's polished, flush surface holds up to that abuse much better than soft enamel does. The tradeoff vs soft enamel keychains is finish, durability, and price. Hard enamel costs slightly more and takes a little longer; you get a flatter, harder-wearing keychain that holds its quality for years.

What you get

  • Hardware: Gold, silver, or rose gold. Choice of keyring with chain, just keyring, or lobster claw.
  • Mold: 1.8mm thick by default (thicker than the standard pin mold) for keychain durability.
  • Custom mold creation included in the price
  • Express shipping included
  • Designs over 2.5": email us for a custom quote.

Simple vs complex shapes

Same as our enamel pins: simple shapes (rectangle, circle, square, soft continuous edges) stamp from iron sheets at standard cost. Complex shapes with deep cut-ins, holes, or thin interior sections need a die-cast zinc alloy mold, which costs more because zinc holds finer detail than iron.

If you're not sure which category your design falls into, send us the artwork and we'll tell you. If you check out with the wrong category, we'll square it up either way.

How a run actually works

Most orders start with a quote, not a cart. You send us your artwork (vector, raster, sketch, Procreate file, whatever you have), and we come back with pricing, a production timeline, and any production notes within a business day or two. We'll flag anything in the file that won't translate well at production size before we move forward, so you're not surprised at proof.

From proof approval, most overseas products are about a month to your door. That's the nature of producing 100% custom merchandise overseas vs. shipping a stock promotional item. Shipping is express and included in the price.

If you have a hard deadline, tell us before you order. We don't charge rush fees. We'll either confirm we can hit your date or tell you up front that we can't, so you can plan around it.

Why our minimum is 50

It's a factory math thing, not a quality stance. The factories we work with charge a labor minimum that covers setup, mold use, proofing, and the production run itself. That floor barely changes between a 25-piece and a 50-piece order, so a 25-piece run costs almost the same as 50 with half the output. 50 is where the per-piece price actually starts to make sense.

We can run smaller hard sample runs if you really need to (the factory will do it), but it's not financially viable for most people: you're paying close to 50-piece pricing for a fraction of the output. If you're set on a small run, email us first and we'll walk through whether it's worth it. Larger runs (100, 200, and up) bring the per-piece cost down meaningfully.

Who we work with

Artists running their own work: illustrators, bands, indie brand owners, podcasters, comic creators, convention sellers. Designers ordering for a brand launch, an event, a campaign, or a customer giveaway. Agencies and design studios producing merch for their clients. Merch companies running production for the artists they represent. The common thread is that the merch matters: it's representing a brand, a band, an artist, or a project that someone cares about.

Common questions

What's the difference between hard and soft enamel keychains?

Hard enamel is buffed flat after baking, so the surface is smooth all the way across. Soft enamel keeps the metal lines raised and the color recessed below them, so you can feel the texture. Hard is more durable and reads cleaner; soft is more tactile and supports finer line detail. More on soft enamel keychains here.

Why is the mold thicker than your pin molds?

Keychains take more daily abuse than pins. They're banged around in pockets, rub against keys, and need to handle being yanked off a keyring. The 1.8mm default mold is sturdier than the standard pin mold and holds up better to that wear.

Can I do print variants?

Yes if the print changes but the shape stays the same. Simple variants are no problem with at least 50 per color way. Lots of variants or specialty inks change the math; email us for an exact quote.

Can you do specialty inks like glitter or glow?

Yes. Specialty inks (glitter enamel, glow-in-the-dark, translucent inks, pearl inks) are available; pricing varies by complexity. Email us for an exact quote.

Do I see a proof before production?

Yes. Digital proof for your review before production is officially scheduled. Revisions are unlimited until you approve. We don't make a physical sample by default; if you need a single physical sample first, it doubles the turnaround.

How long do hard enamel keychains take?

About four weeks from proof approval to your door, including express shipping. No rush fees.

Are your enamel keychains made in the USA?

Our enamel keychains are produced overseas at long-vetted factories. Our team is US-based and handles file prep, proofing, and customer success. Our wooden products and stickers are made in the USA.

Are your keychains safety-tested?

Yes. Prop 65 compliant, tested for lead and phthalates.
