What UV printed wooden pins actually are

The base is the same sustainable cherry wood as our standard wooden pins, cut to your custom shape with a silver butterfly clasp on the back. Where the standard wooden pin uses laser engraving (single-tone burning into the wood), the UV printed version uses full-color ink printed on the wood surface using UV-LED-cured GreenGuard Gold certified inks. The result is full-color artwork that retains the visible wood grain underneath in unprinted areas.

What artwork works best

UV printing on wood handles full color, gradients, and fine detail — significantly more flexible than the laser-burned version. The main consideration is contrast: the wood grain shows through wherever the print is translucent or unprinted, so designs with deliberate transparency get a beautiful wood-and-color effect, while designs that rely on solid color blocks may want a white-ink underlayer to keep colors fully opaque (specify in your order notes if you want this).

How a run actually works

Most orders start with a quote, not a cart. You send us your artwork, and we come back with pricing, a production timeline, and any production notes within a business day or two. We'll flag anything that won't translate well to wood before we move forward.

From proof approval, wooden products typically ship in 5 to 7 days from our US wood shop. That's significantly faster than overseas custom merchandise. Shipping is express and included.

Why our minimum is 25

Wooden products are the one category we make in smaller runs. They're produced at our US wood shop instead of overseas, which means we're not running into the same factory labor minimums that set the 50-piece floor on enamel and metal products. 25-piece runs are economically reasonable here. Mix multiple designs in one order as long as each design hits the 25-piece minimum at the same size range.

Common questions

What's the difference between UV printed wooden pins and laser-burned wooden pins?

Laser-burned has no ink — your design is permanently marked into the wood by laser, single-tone, organic-looking. UV printed uses ink to put full color on the wood surface. Burned reads more rustic and minimal; UV printed reads more vibrant and brand-forward. More on laser-burned wooden pins here.

What's GreenGuard Gold and why does it matter?

GreenGuard Gold is a third-party certification for indoor air quality and chemical safety. The inks have passed strict tests for VOC emissions and toxic compounds. Important for parent-facing brands, schools, indoor commercial use, and any audience whose buyers ask about ingredient transparency.

Will the print fade over time?

UV-cured ink is sealed and protected. With normal wear (worn on a jacket, displayed on a board) the colors hold up for years. Heavy outdoor UV exposure can eventually fade printed areas, but the wood grain underneath stays unchanged. The pin still looks intentional even as the print weathers.

Can I do specialty finishes on the wood?

The cherry wood is the substrate; we don't typically add additional wood finishes. The UV print is the visual differentiator. Email us if you have a specific finish request beyond standard.
