Custom PVC keychains for artwork that needs to be the shape of the keychain itself. Unlike metal keychains (which are stamped or printed in standard outlines) or motel keychains (locked to the motel-tag silhouette), PVC keychains are die-cut to the precise outline of your artwork. If your design has a distinctive shape, that's the shape of the keychain.

Alchemy is a production partner built by artists, musicians, and brand owners. We've helped creators produce over 5 million custom products since 2019, and we don't operate like a promotional products company. Whether you're an indie illustrator running your first 50-piece drop, a band making merch for a tour, or a designer ordering for a brand launch, our job is the same: make the best merch we can for you.

What PVC keychains actually are

PVC (polyvinyl chloride) is a durable plastic that can be molded into any 2D or 3D form. The factory creates a custom mold from your artwork (included in the price), and each keychain is molded to that exact shape with the colors built into the material itself rather than printed on top. The result is a keychain where the artwork and the object are the same thing, with no separate print layer that can scratch off.

2D vs 3D options

2D PVC keychain

Flat construction with the design as a single relief surface. Most economical and works for the majority of artwork.

3D PVC keychain

Multi-level construction with parts of the design raised more than others, creating depth and shadow. Best for character designs, mascots, and artwork where dimensional detail is part of the appeal. Costs more because the mold is more complex.

Design considerations

  • Color separation: Like enamel pins, PVC designs need clear outlines or linework to separate fill colors. Highly detailed artwork may need to be simplified for production. We'll tell you upfront if your file needs adaptation.
  • Hardware: Choose gold or silver hardware. Pre-attached.
  • Material: Durable PVC stands up to daily wear, doesn't crack like cheap plastic alternatives.
  • Custom mold creation included in the price.

How a run actually works

Most orders start with a quote, not a cart. You send us your artwork (vector, raster, sketch, Procreate file, whatever you have), and we come back with pricing, a production timeline, and any production notes within a business day or two. We'll flag anything in the file that won't translate well at production size before we move forward, so you're not surprised at proof.

From proof approval, most overseas products are about a month to your door. That's the nature of producing 100% custom merchandise overseas vs. shipping a stock promotional item. Shipping is express and included in the price.

If you have a hard deadline, tell us before you order. We don't charge rush fees. We'll either confirm we can hit your date or tell you up front that we can't, so you can plan around it.

Why our minimum is 50

It's a factory math thing, not a quality stance. The factories we work with charge a labor minimum that covers setup, mold use, proofing, and the production run itself. That floor barely changes between a 25-piece and a 50-piece order, so a 25-piece run costs almost the same as 50 with half the output. 50 is where the per-piece price actually starts to make sense.

We can run smaller hard sample runs if you really need to (the factory will do it), but it's not financially viable for most people: you're paying close to 50-piece pricing for a fraction of the output. If you're set on a small run, email us first and we'll walk through whether it's worth it. Larger runs (100, 200, and up) bring the per-piece cost down meaningfully.

Who we work with

Artists running their own work: illustrators, bands, indie brand owners, podcasters, comic creators, convention sellers. Designers ordering for a brand launch, an event, a campaign, or a customer giveaway. Agencies and design studios producing merch for their clients. Merch companies running production for the artists they represent. The common thread is that the merch matters: it's representing a brand, a band, an artist, or a project that someone cares about.

Common questions

How is PVC different from enamel or metal keychains?

Enamel and metal keychains have a flat metal body with the design applied via enamel fill or UV print. PVC is the body itself, molded to your artwork's exact shape with the colors built into the plastic. Different aesthetic, different production process, and different price point. PVC is usually the right call when you want the keychain shape to match your artwork outline exactly.

Can my design have any number of colors?

Yes, but each color requires its own mold layer, so very high color counts increase complexity and cost. Most PVC keychains use 4-8 colors. We'll quote based on your specific design.

Does the design need outlines or linework?

Yes, similar to enamel pins. The mold separates colors at distinct edges, so designs need clear linework or color boundaries. Photo-realistic art with smooth gradients won't translate to PVC; for that, see our UV printed metal keychains.

Can the keychain have cutouts or holes?

Yes. The die-cut process can include holes, negative space, and complex outlines. We'll review your file and tell you if any specific cutouts will cause production issues.

Do I see a proof before production?

Yes. Digital proof for review before mold creation. We'll show you exactly how the artwork will translate to PVC including color choices and any needed simplifications.

How long do PVC keychains take?

About four weeks from proof approval to your door, including express shipping. The mold creation step is included in the timeline. No rush fees.

Are these made in the USA?

PVC keychains are produced overseas at long-vetted factories. Our team is US-based and handles file prep, proofing, and customer success. Our wooden products and stickers are made in the USA.
