What hard enamel earrings actually are
The earring body is built like a small hard enamel pin (without the pin clutch on the back), connected to your chosen backing hardware. Hard enamel uses the same enamel-fill process as soft enamel, but the surface is buffed flat after baking — the colored fills sit flush with the raised metal lines, creating a smooth jewelry-quality surface. Reads as polished, premium, and finished compared to soft enamel's textured craft look.
One thing to know about hard enamel at small earring sizes: the buffing process can thicken very fine metal lines slightly. We'll review your file at proofing and tell you if any details will be affected before going to production. Sizes and backing options
Most custom earrings are 0.35" to 1" for comfortable daily wear. Larger is possible — for sizes above 1.5" we recommend hook backing instead of post because the metal-and-enamel weight at that scale distributes better through a hook than through a post.
Standard backing options:

- Hook backing (recommended for larger or heavier designs)
- Lever back (more secure than butterfly back, slightly more premium feel)

Print options for very detailed designs
If your artwork has more detail than enamel can hold cleanly at earring size (very fine lines, photo-realistic art, gradients), we can screen print one color directly onto the metal instead of using enamel inks. This works best for single-color designs on otherwise simple metal-and-enamel earrings. How a run actually works
Most orders start with a quote, not a cart. You send us your artwork, and we come back with pricing, a production timeline, and any production notes within a business day or two. We'll flag anything in the file that won't translate well at production size before we move forward.
From proof approval, most overseas products are about a month to your door. That's the nature of producing 100% custom merchandise overseas vs. shipping a stock promotional item. Shipping is express and included in the price.
If you have a hard deadline, tell us before you order. We don't charge rush fees. We'll either confirm we can hit your date or tell you up front that we can't, so you can plan around it.
Why our minimum is 50
It's a factory math thing, not a quality stance. The factories we work with charge a labor minimum that covers setup, mold use, proofing, and the production run itself. That floor barely changes between a 25-piece and a 50-piece order, so a 25-piece run costs almost the same as 50 with half the output. 50 is where the per-piece price actually starts to make sense.
We can run smaller hard sample runs if you really need to (the factory will do it), but it's not financially viable for most people: you're paying close to 50-piece pricing for a fraction of the output. If you're set on a small run, email us first and we'll walk through whether it's worth it. Larger runs (100, 200, and up) bring the per-piece cost down meaningfully.

Why are earrings priced individually instead of by pair?
Because we make each earring as a separate piece. Some buyers want matched pairs; others want mismatched pairs; some want single-earring runs as merch giveaways. So 100 earrings = 50 pairs.
What's the difference between hard and soft enamel earrings?
Hard enamel is buffed flush so the surface is smooth all the way across — reads as polished jewelry. Soft enamel keeps the metal lines raised with recessed color, giving a tactile dimensional feel. Hard for polished look; soft for craft-forward look. More on soft enamel earrings here.
Can I do mismatched earrings?
Yes. Different art or color on each earring is allowed as long as each design hits the minimum. Email us with your splits for an exact quote.
Will fine lines hold up at earring size?
Hard enamel buffs flat after baking, which can thicken very fine metal lines slightly during polishing. At earring scale (0.35"-1"), this is more noticeable than on larger pins. We review the file at proofing and tell you if any details will be affected. For artwork with lots of fine detail, soft enamel or screen-printed-on-metal versions hold detail better.

Pricing on hard enamel earrings includes free shipping internationally — one of the few products where we bundle international shipping into the listed price.
How long do earrings take?
About four weeks from proof approval to your door, including express shipping. No rush fees.
Do I see a proof before production?
Yes. Digital proof for review before production. Revisions until you approve. Physical samples available on request but they double the turnaround.
Are these made in the USA?
Hard enamel earrings are produced overseas at long-vetted factories. Our team is US-based and handles file prep, proofing, and customer success. Our wooden products and stickers are made in the USA.
